FIRST RECORDING

After a year of playing together, Peter and Richard decided to make a recording ‘for demo purposes’ at Valley Wood, the Leeds studio owned by Barkley McKay.

The themes of travel & transition that go on to dominate THRESHOLD, I AM ALIVE and ARRIVALS & DEPARTURES first make their appearance, as does the combination of Spafford originals and settings of past masters (Browning, Thomas, Frost, Tennyson, Turner).

Pushed for time in the studio, Richard nevertheless insists on adding layers of brass etc wherever possible - what was originally conceived as a demo turns out to be our first, humble piece of merch ;)
