The first first-length recorded album by Peter & Richard, Now We Are Schwa treats poems by Kathleen Jamie and presents original songs by Peter inspired by T.S. Eliot, Stevie Smith and Wallace Stevens, as well as medieval Chinese writing and slow cookers. Recorded by Barkley McKay at Valley Wood in Leeds, it gives Richard a chance to experiment with orchestrating the tunes in a way that we just can’t in live shows, and prominently features accordion and brass sections in a rich sound with very English roots, despite the influences from Brazil, South Africa, Jamaica etc…
